Welcome

Art for Animals’ Sake (A.A.S.) goal is to raise funds and promote nonprofit animal rescue groups through collaboration with local artists.

“A.A.S. activities provide opportunities for greater exposure for both the rescue group and participating artists. It is our goal to provide both communities greater exposure through our programs,” says David Walega, founder of Arts for Animals’ Sake and Seattle photographer.

Mission:
A.A.S.’ mission is to be the fundraising and public relations arm for grassroots, nonprofit animal rescue groups. “The typical nonprofit spends up to 35 percent of its operational budget on fundraising and public relations activities. A.A.S. allows animal rescue organizations to focus on their core mission and brings both the art and animal welfare communities together”, says Treena Colby, senior advisor and marketing/business development professional.

Background:
A.A.S. has already helped animal rescue organizations through collaborations with artists to create exhibitions, offer limited edition artist prints and produce special events. At A.A.S.’ inaugural Silent Auction Event in August 2009, the event raised close to $7,000 for the Northwest Organization for Animal Help (N.O.A.H.), a leading northwest animal organization. N.O.A.H. had recently rescued more than thirty puppies from a condemned puppy mill in northern Washington State. After the auction, N.O.A.H. accomplished their mission to perform more than 25,000 spay and neuter surgeries.

Most recently, A.A.S. lent its talents to Old Dog Haven and raised funds through the sale of Holiday Pet Photographs. “We want to raise funds for animal organizations that lack financial flexibility to do it themselves and enable them to focus on their main goal, saving animals,” said Walega.

Approach:
A.A.S. approaches fund raising with a three-pronged approach:
   1. Organizing an annual art auction
   2. Fundraising throughout the year through online art sales and exhibitions
   3. Organizing volunteer opportunities for those interested in donating time

'Old Dog Haven's costs for vet care are huge and growing steadily as we
take in more old dogs who need medical attention. The donation from
Art for Animals' Sake is a significant contribution toward those
expenses.' Judith Piper, Executive Director Old Dog Haven
